Today Show: Al Roker Practices With New York Yankees

Al Roker had the chance to fulfill his childhood dream of playing baseball with the New York Yankees when he was invited to a practice during their spring training. He traveled down to Florida’s Steinbrenner Field, where the Yankees hold their spring training, for some batting practice, some catch and some good ol’ fashioned running.

When he arrived he was told to toss on a cup and always hustle during the practice. He even got a few tips from Reggie Jackson who told him he needed to stop stabbing at the ball when he caught it. “Be cool with it,” he told Roker. He took a few swings in the batting cages, but no one was too impressed. Derek Jeter even asked him if he could be left handed and not even know it.

In the end, Roker didn’t make the team and he didn’t get to play in the spring training game, but he did get to hand the official lineup card to the umpires before the game started.

Today Show: Soldier Surprises Wife On 20th Wedding Anniversary

Kristi Hinton must have been pretty confused when strangers started handing her roses as they exited the airport terminal. She told the Today Show she simply dismissed the first two roses, but when people kept handing them to her, she couldn’t figure out what was happening until she saw her husband, Scott Hinson, walking down the terminal with the 20th rose in his hand.

Scott Hinson told the Today Show he wanted to do something special for his wife on their 20th wedding anniversary. He said he wanted to do something different so he worked with his daughters and came up with the idea to have 19 passengers on the plane he was taking back from Afghanistan give his wife roses before seeing him walk up with the final one.

Although the plan may seem pretty easy to execute, Scott Hinson said it was difficult. He had to make sure all 19 roses got to his wife before he did and when he was exiting the plane he noticed a lot of people with roses getting coffee or walking slowly. He said he had to wait for them to get moving and he even saw a few hand off their roses to other people willing to drop them off. As much as he surprised his wife, he sure set the bar pretty high for his 21st wedding anniversary.
