Today Show: 50 Cent, Formula 50 Review

50 Cent has been on the music scene ever since he came out with the single “In Da Club,” and then went on to get 11 Grammy nominations and star in a movie about his life, Get Rich or Die Tryin’. Other than his music career, people are always talking about his sculpted physique and now anyone can learn to have the type of build 50 Cent does when they read his book, Formula 50: A 6-Week Workout and Nutrition Plan That Will Transform Your Life.

50 Cent, who said people started calling him “fitty cent” because of Sharon Osbournepronouncing his name slightly wrong, said he was able to get into excellent shape after he was shot in 2000. 50 Cent wanted to do as much as he could to get his body back to where he wanted it so he began rehabilitating himself. He said he worked out on special treadmills before he was able to walk well enough to hit the gym, something that really forced a new lifestyle on him.

This new lifestyle led him to write the book, which he said will help the average person get in shape. “They get the training part right but not the diet part,” 50 Cent said. “This book will help them do both.”

Today Show: 50 Cent Motivational Sayings

A lot of people have been questioning whether they should get their workout techniques from a rapper, when most of his songs are about drugs and not working out. But 50 Cent said people have typecast him as a certain person because of his songs about smoking. “I have made it publicly aware that I do not do drugs or drink,” 50 Cent said.

Part of Formula 50’s way to get people in shape is by offering them different sayings to keep them motivated through out the book. One saying, “where there is a way, doesn’t mean it is the right way,” means there are right ways and wrong ways to get fit. 50 Cent said starving yourself is one of the wrong ways.

Another saying in the book reads, “embrace the chaos in the gym.” 50 Cent said this is to motivate people to be inventive when they get to the gym. “Sometimes you get to the gym with your workout plan but someone is on the machine already,” 50 Cent said. “You need to learn how to get your workout down when things are clogged up in the gym.”

About the author

After graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Journalism and Anthropology, I managed a pizza place for a year, while freelancing for various newspapers in the area. Working every weekend in sauna like conditions, never being able to take a day off and being covered in flour is something I will not miss. I hope Recapo has air conditioning.
