Today Show: Martha Stewart Edible Gardens
Martha Stewart stopped by the Today Show to show everyone how to make some edible gardens. Basically she explained it as gardening without the garden. She went over how to make a tea garden, a salsa garden and a green garden all in containers and pots that take very little maintenance.
Today Show: Martha Stewart Edible Tea Garden
The first thing you want to do with the tea garden, and the rest of the gardens below, is cover the hole in the bottom of the container with some gardening mesh. This will hold in the soil but allow excess water to drain out of the container. Martha Stewart also suggested holding down the mesh with some rocks because the soil may shift and move the mesh.
After you have the hole covered, fill the container 3/4 full with soil.
Lastly, dig some holes in the soil where you can put some plants that will be great with tea. Try planting some lavender, some mint and some summer savory. When it comes time to eat some of the plants, Stewart said to snip from top of the plant and always remember to trim the plant so it can continue to grow.
Today Show: Martha Stewart Salsa Garden
The next garden was the salsa garden. Do everything you did above for the tea garden, except use different plants. Try some of the ones listed below:
- Sweet peppers
- Chile peppers
She suggested using potting soil for this edible garden and making sure the plants get around eight hours of sunlight everyday. As for watering them, Martha Stewart said it is best to water them every other day because they should be getting dry around that time.
