Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb gave us some tips on raising a toast for our country this 4th of July, as they are joined by Sharon Severens, owner of Amanti Vino in Montclair, NJ, and she shares with us wine pairings of All-American food and wines made in American.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Johan Vineyards Pinot Gris Review
For a cold shrimp dish, Sharon Severens paired it with Johan Vineyards Pinot Gris 2010 Oregon for $22.99. She said it has a little more richness, so it will stand up to the weight of the shrimp. Severens said it will go great with salmon on the grill or grilled sausages as well.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Ravines Dry Riesling Review
For chicken wings, Sharon Severens suggested to pair it with Ravines Dry Riesling 2011 New York for $15.99. She said one of the things she always hears is that they don’t like Riesling and it’s too sweet, but this is a dry Riesling. Kathie Lee Gifford said it is not as sweet as many of them and so crisp. Severens said it goes with something with a lot of spice in it.

For a shrimp salad, Sharon Severens suggested to pair it with Red Car Rose of Pinot Noir 2011 California for $19.99. She said a lot of people say they don’t like Rose because it is too sweet. Today, Rose is absolutely dry and is what a lot of red wine drinkers drink when the temperatures get hot. Kathie Lee said it is delicious. Severens said it is great with a grilled pizza as well.

For your meat dishes, Sharon Severens suggested pairing it with Charles Smith Boom Boom Syrah 2010 Washington for $16.99. She said it is a big, bold, fruit-forward, delicious wine that will stand up to any meat you want to put on the grill.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout Review
For an adult-only take on a root beer float, Sharon Severens suggested using Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout for $8.99/six pack. To make this adult treat, Severens said to pout the Stout over vanilla ice cream with ginger snap cookies. Kathie Lee said because of the stout, it is not too sweet.
