Lou Manfredini, The Today Show contributor and host of the syndicated show House Smarts, joined Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda to give you some home repair tips as they answer your emails on home repair questions, including Natural Magic Odor Absorbing Gel & Gonzo Odor Eliminator reviews, fixing your toilet and more.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Fixing Toilet Problems
My toilet won’t flush unless I hold down the handle until it’s finished flushing. How do I fix this?
Lou Manfredini said to get a medium-sized fishing bobber. Then clip the bobber on the chain right above the flapper, about an inch above it. This keeps the flap open a little longer. Manfredini said that replacing the flapper is just as easy.
Natural Magic Odor Absorbing Gel & Gonzo Odor Eliminator Reviews
I have a musty smell coming from a crawl space in the house. I have placed damp rid in crawl space, but it still stinks. Any suggestions?
Lou Manfredini said that air flow is crucial in a crawl space, so get air moving in that space with a fan. Manfredini said to place odor neutralizing products in all corners, like from Natural Magic. They permeate into the space, grab the malodor, wrap around it and eliminate it.
Lou Manfredini said another option for eliminating odor is to use Gonzo Odor Eliminator. Manfredini said it is actually volcanic rock. To use Gonzo, you hang it and it absorbs the odor. Manfredini said it doesn’t smell like anything and works continuously and is all-natural. After you start to smell the malodor, Manfredini said to take it out into the sun for four hours and it regenerates because it is lava rock.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Sealing In An Air Conditioning Unit
What is the best way to plug the openings around a window air conditioning unit?
Lou Manfredini said that air conditioning units come with ears that try to seal it, but they don’t work the greatest. He suggested to use window insulation kit by Frost King to seal it in. To use, Manfredini said to use double-sided tape, stick it to the air conditioner. Then put the insulation around the window and use a hair dryer to tighten it up. Manfredini said this will seal and keep the cold in.
