Kathie Lee & Hoda: Frank Fontana Grout Cleaning Secrets
Cleaning the grout in the bathroom may be one of the worst household chores you have to tackle every once in a while but Kathie Lee and Hoda wanted to find out if there are easier ways to get it clean other than using a toothbrush. They called on the help of Frank Fontana, author of Frank Fontana’s Dirty Little Secrets of Design.
He said he had a bunch of secrets to show the c0-hosts about cleaning grout, fixing scratched tiles and getting your toilet back to looking like new.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Grout Cleaning Advice
Getting out the dirt from the grout in the bathroom can be hard, but Fontana said it doesn’t have to be. He suggested using a handheld grout steamer that cleans the grout with steam and literally pulls dirt right off the grout.
If the dirt is too thick, he suggested using a mixture of white vinegar and water. He said to combine both, half and half, in a squirt bottle, spray it on the grout, let it sit for a few minutes and then scrub it off.
If that doesn’t work for you, Fontana said another option you have is using Magic Grout Cleaner. He said to use it the same way as you would use the water and vinegar.
If you have tried those and it still isn’t clean, the last option you have is using grout paint to paint over the dirt.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Don’t Use Grout
Now that you how much of a hassle grout can be, Fontana said it might be best to find tiles that can lay snug together. Simply put a little tile glue on the backs and sides on the tile and push them together.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: How To Fix a Scratched Piece Of Tile
If you have a scratched piece of tile, Fontana said don’t throw it away. He suggested using the Magic Porcelain Chip Fix product. Simply apply the product the same way you would if you needed to white out something on paper. After some time the paint will seep into the scratch and the line will disappear.
If you are trying to clean porcelain but it is not cracked, Fontana suggested using the Magic Finishing Kit to make your toilet or tub look brand new again.
