He is a music legend that needs no introduction. Lionel Richie has been thrilling audiences for more than 40 years and earning himself five Grammys and an Academy Award. He joined Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb in the studio to talk about his newest album, Tuskegee, working with such great country artists and going country.
Lionel Richie: Tuskegee Review
Kathie Lee said Tuskegee is the biggest selling CD for the first half of 2012. He said what a surprise. He went down and wanted to do a little country and everyone in country knew every song that he has ever done.
Lionel Richie talked about working with Rascal Flatts on the album. He said instead of making it like a Sinatra album where you have to sing it like Frank, Lionel said he told them they are a band and make it a Rascal Flatts song and he’ll come in after them. Lionel Richie: Working With Country Artists
The ladies asked how he got the artists, like Shania Twain and Rascal Flatts. Lionel said he asked the question and what song they would want to do. Kenny Chesney, you would think would want to sing a muscle song, but he wanted to sing “Penny Lover.” He said these guys are so much fun. They all said yes right away. Lionel said we get in the studio and we are having fun. “We laughed a lot.” He said it reminds him of how the music business used to be.
