Il Volo consists of Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto, and Gianluca Ginoble and in May 2009, they appeared on the popular Italian talent show Ti Lascio Una Canzone. The audience was amazed by their rendition of the Neapolitan standard “O Sole Mio.” They easily won the competition and decided to name their group, Il Volo, which means flight in Italian. The boys felt their were about to take flight on some big things, so thought it was a perfect name for them!

There name means flight and since 2009, their band has really taken flight. The trio of Italian tenors has been nominated for two Latin Grammy awards and are getting ready to be in Barbara Streisand concerts when she goes on tour. The album was released in November 2010 in Italy, their home country, and has already been certified gold and about to hit platinum status. The record was recorded in both Los Angeles and Rome. They also were able to record in the London’s famed Abbey Road Studios.

The boys said it is a dream come true. They are on tour right now and traveling around on a bus. They said they can’t wait to perform tomorrow in Detroit and Toronto the next night. The album is a blend between new and old and should make the tweens swoon over these boys as they make their way around the country. Is this the next new boy band to take center stage in the US along with The Wanted and One Direction?
