Danica McKellar is best known for playing Winnie Cooper on the hit TV show, The Wonder Years, but she grew up to be a math genius. She graduated summa cum laude from UCLA and now she wants girls everywhere to know that math is not just for boys.

Danica McKellar: Girls Get Curves Review

Girls Get Curves is Danica McKellar’s fourth book. She said she gets amazing responses from girls on the books. She gets tweets and emails saying: You’ve changed my life; you’ve changed my outlook on math; I feel good; I feel smart.

McKellar said she struggled in middle school and had a great teacher that came in. She said that math is like a foreign language and it’s all about how it is presented and how it is translated. She had a great teacher come in in the seventh grade and translated it well and made it fun and not so “mathy.”

McKellar said that girls get discouraged at some point and they give up on it and that’s it. Her books say that math is for you, which is why they look more like teen magazines and not math books. McKellars said that in fact, by doing math, it makes you more fabulous.

Danica McKellar: Acting Career

Even with the math super genius title still under her belt, Danica McKellar has continued her acting career. She said she just finished a romantic comedy set at Christmas time. It is with Lea Thompson and Dustin Milligan. McKellar said it was such a fun experience and you should probably see it this year on TV.
