With summer around the corner, Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb sat down with Tara McNamara, Family Film Mom at Fandango, and discussed the most anticipated and parent-approved films for this summer. From ratings to watch out for to a preview of family movies summer 2012, Tara had all the information you need.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: What Ratings Really Mean
Tara McNamara tells Kathie Lee and Hoda that PG-13 is the enigma for parents. Tara says the MPAA tells you everything that is in the movie now…read that. She states one of the trends this summer is smoking pot on camera and those are PG-13 movies.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Save Money, Watch Movies At Home
If you are on a budget and find it too expensive to take the whole family to the movie theater, Tara McNamara suggests watching movies at home. She states the new movies out there are great, but she suggest going back in time and watching some classics. Her suggestion is Homeward Bound, from 1993 starring Don Alder and Ed Bernard.
Summer Sequels: Madagascar 3
Tara McNamara says it is the summer of big sequels and the movies are enjoyable for the whole family. Fandango did a poll asking which family-friendly movie people are most interested in seeing and coming in number one was Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. Tara says it has comedy, over-the-top stunts and animals…all things kids love and it may be the best in the trilogy. It opens in theaters on June 15 2012.
Summer Sequels: Ice Age 4
The next big sequel, Ice Age 4: Continental Drift, comes back for it’s fourth edition. Another fun film for the family and Keke Palmer joins the cast and Tara says that’s good for the kids. It opens in theaters July 13 2012.
Brave: Disney’s First Herione
Pixar Studios has another movie coming out this summer and Tara McNamara says it is something we all take for granted. This time, Disney is releasing Brave, the first movie with a heroine, a female protagonist. In the movie, the heroine is a princess that is also a warrior. Tara says the animation is very sophisticated, so parents will enjoy it. It opens in theaters on June 22 2012.
Family Films: Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Returning to the big screen this summer is Diary of a Wimpy Kid, based on the book series that the tweens love. Tara McNamara says the newest film, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, is hilarious and will be in theaters on August 3 2012.
Summer Movies: Odd Life of Timothy Green
A film more for the parents, but also a movie the kids could watch is The Odd Life Of Timothy Green. The movie shows a couple who can’t have kids, so they put all their hopes and dreams of having a kid in a box and bury it. The next day the child arrives. Tara McNamara tells Kathie Lee and Hoda it’s Field Of Dreams for childless couples. It stars Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton and opens in theaters on August 15 2012.
