Today Show: Toyota Concert Series
Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb welcomed Grouplove to the Today Show stage, as they took part in the Toyota Concert Series on Today. After a talk with the ladies, Grouplove performed their hit single, “Tongue Tied.”
Grouplove: Early Days
Grouplove formed in 2010 and includes Hannah Hooper, Christian Zucconi, Sean Gadd, Andrew Wessen and Ryan Rabin. Grouplove first came together at an artist commune in Crete. After leaving Crete, Grouplove met back in L.A. a year later and started to write songs together. Zucconi said: “We never could have dreamt this up, but at the same time we’re not at all surprised. Grouplove is meant to be. Our story is a testament to fate, and our music is something we are ready to share.” After meeting back up a year later, they performed at El Cid in Los Angeles in May 2010 and they found almost immediate success.
Grouplove: Tongue Tied Review
For Grouplove, Tongue Tied put them on the map and on top of the Billboard Alternative Songs chart, which is the band’s first number one single. Hoda Kotb said it is being hailed as one of the top songs of the summer. This all comes from their debut album, Never Trust A Happy Song. The song was also featured in an Apple iPod commercial in 2011.
Grouplove: Colours Review
Despite the huge success of Tongue Tied, that was not the first single that made it big off the Never Trust A Happy Song album. Colours, also on the album, was ranked number 12 on USA Today’s alternative chart and was also featured in Madden 12, FIFA 12 and MLB 2K12.
