Summer Movies: Superman Henry Cavill & Man Of Steel
Chris Witherspoon, entertainment editor for TheGrio.com, visited Today to talk with Kathie Lee and Hoda about the new movie blockbusters arriving to theaters this summer. Man of Steel, the new Superman film, was first on the list and Chris discussed the film’s star, Henry Cavill. Chris said that Henry, a British actor, will be the first non-American to play the role of Superman and this will be his breakout role. He said that Henry has thrown himself into the role, and has been eating 5,000 calories each day and working out to perfect the Superman body.
Today Show: The Heat Review
Next up, Chris talked about The Heat, starring funny ladies Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy as an FBI agent and a police officer teaming up to take down Russian mobsters. Chris said that the pairing of Sandra and “It Girl” Melissa is expected to be great comedy. He also mentioned that this will be Sandra’s third time playing an FBI agent, after Miss Congeniality and Miss Congeniality 2.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Despicable Me Sequel Review
The sequel to Despicable Me premieres in July and is looking to be just as good as the first film. Chris said that in this film, Steve Carrell’s character Gru is a villan turned hero and the beloved minions will make their anticipated return. He also said that a movie just about the minions is in the works to be premiered in 2014.
Kathie Lee: The Hangover Part III Review
The Hangover Part III just premiered last week and Chris said it has been getting mixed reviews. However, he talked about the little-known fact that the film’s star Ken Jeong is actually a licensed physician in the state of California. Chris said that Ken worked in the ER for seven years before landing his comedy debut as a gynecologist in Knocked Up.
Hoda Kotb: Lone Ranger Review
Last but not least, Lone Ranger, starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, best known for his role as the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network, is coming to the big screen this summer. Chris said the film will be the perfect family film, because it has action and excitement for the younger generations, but a storyline beloved by the older generations.
