Kathie Lee & Hoda: 48 Hour Weekend Makeover
Did you ever think you could get organized in only 48 hours? According to Jill Martin, it is possible with hard work and some advice from her new book, The Weekend Makeover. To prove that it is possible, Martin sent out a tweet asking for women to tweet why they should get a weekend makeover for their home and she found her woman pretty quickly.
Rachel tweeted at Martin saying she has had body lotion in her medicine cabinet for over five years and that isn’t the only product she had for a number of years.
Martin went to Rachel’s house and dug through her makeup cabinet where she found items that were over eight years old, empty lotion containers and a tiara. She even found Rachel’s eyelash curler from high school. Martin was able to take all the products that were expired and empty and turn Rachel’s four shelf cabinet that was overflowing with products into a cabinet with one shelf for makeup and three shelves for anything else Rachel wanted to put there.
Although Hoda and Kathie Lee couldn’t see why Rachel needed help throwing out expired makeup and empty bottles, Martin said it can be emotional for a woman to just throw away products she spent money on.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Expiration Date Tips For Beauty Supplies
Martin said a lot of women do not realize how fast beauty supplies can go bad. She suggested following the rules below when it comes to beauty supplies and expiration dates:
- Anything with a wand (mascara, lip gloss, etc.) expires after three months. She said this is because bacteria can build up every time you use the wand on your face and then put it back into the container.
- All moisturizers, cleansers and foundation expire after 6 to 12 months. Martin said the temperature change in the bathroom is the perfect environment for bacteria to grow on beauty supplies.
- Sun tan lotion needs to be thrown away after each summer.
