Kathie Lee & Hoda: Molly Ringwald Co-Hosts Fourth Hour Of Today Show
Kathie Lee Gifford is still on vacation for the week, so the fourth hour of the Today Show brought on Molly Ringwald to co-host the show with Hoda Kotb. Hoda couldn’t believe Ringwald even had time to be on the show. She isn’t the young woman she used to be in the 1980s. Ringwald now has one set of twins and a nine-year-old. She said it can be a handful sometimes but her husband helps her a lot.
“We are both really creative (with the way we juggle our time),” Ringwald said.

Molly Ringwald: Jazz Album Except Sometimes Review
Did you know Molly Ringwald is a jazz musician? Me neither. She told Hoda her newest jazz album, Except Sometimes, is coming out April 9 2013. Ringwald said she has been singing since before she could talk, pointing out that her father was a jazz musician. She said the album is a lot of covers of songs many of have heard but the one that hits closest to her heart is her cover of the song “Don’t You Forgot About Me” off the soundtrack for The Breakfast Club. Ringwald said she wanted to cover the song to pay homage to John Hughes, saying she recorded the album around the time of his death.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Name That Redhead
Because Molly Ringwald is one of the most iconic redheads ever in film and television, she and Hoda played a game called “Name That Redhead” where the face of the person is covered up but the red hair is visible. They got most of them right except Ringwald thought Shawn White was actually Julia Roberts. The redheads from the game included:
- Prince Harry
- Kathy Griffin
- Lucille Ball
- Shawn White
- Jessica Chastain
- Wilma from The Flintstones
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Molly Ringwald House Rule – No Electronics At the Table
Before getting to the Social Q’s question Hoda had ready for the show today she wanted to know whether Ringwald was the type of person to allow her children to use iPads when at the dinner table. Ringwald said in her house there is a rule that no electronics are allowed at the dinner table and the rule even applies to restaurants. She said she brings coloring books and blocks for her children to play with when she takes them out to eat. She added that she gets concerned when children seem “checked out” while playing on an iPad.
“That is all they want to do but they need to learn to manipulate things with their hands,” Ringwald said.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Social Q’s – Dealing With Smelly Feet
Have you ever been on an airplane or in a theater and you are overtaken with the rancid smell of feet? The same thing happened to one woman who wrote in to Social Q’s columnist Philip Galanes. She was at a seated musical performance and someone took their shoes off causing a rank smell to engulf her section of seats.
Ringwald said she would tap the person on the shoulder and ask them to put their shoes back on but Galanes did not agree. He said it would be polite to spray perfume into a Kleenex and hold it to your nose so you can smell a pleasant smell while at the same time not having to start a confrontation.
What would you do? Ask the person to put their shoes back on or stick your nose into a Kleenex with some perfume?

With Kathie Lee out on vacation, it was up to Molly Ringwald to take over joke duties for the Friday Funny. They might not be the best jokes ever, but they could compete with some of Kathie Lee’s jokes.
