Today Show: Ann Curry Leaves As Co-Host
After 15 years, Ann Curry announced this morning that she is leaving as co-host of The Today Show. Curry will still be with the NBC team, as she will have a seven-member team and report on stories across the globe. Kathie Lee Gifford said Curry is very courageous and will bring us great stories from across the world.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Pre-Order Kathie Lee and Hoda Mugs
If you want one of the coffee mugs that Kathie Lee and Hoda drink out of sometimes (when they aren’t drinking out of the wine glasses, so not often), then you can pre-order the mugs at the NBC Universal Store. The mugs will sell for $14 and are available sometime in July.
FDA Approves New Belviq Weight Loss Pill
The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new weight loss pill. Belviq is the first weight loss pill approved by the FDA in 13 years. Belviq is manufactured by Arena Pharmaceuticals and will be distributed in the US by Eisai. Hoda Kotb said you take the pill and then you have to diet and exercise. Lose the pill and just diet and exercise people! Kathie Lee Gifford said the pill is supposed to help you lose 3% of your starting weight in one year. The ladies said, of course, side effects are always an issue with weight loss pills.
People Magazine: Paula Deen Loses 30 Pounds
Speaking of weight loss, Paula Deen is on the cover of People this week announcing that she has lost 30 pounds. Deen announced she is diabetic earlier this year and has lost the weight to better her health. Hoda said she lost the weight in her stomach, which is hard to do for most people.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Worker Sues For Skimpy Uniforms
A woman worked in a restaurant and the restaurant wanted more foot traffic, so they asked the waitresses to wear more skimpy clothes. This particular woman did not want to wear the short skirts, so she refused. The restaurant didn’t force her to wear the clothes, but they did cut her hours. The woman is now suing the company for sexual harassment, wrongful termination and unpaid wages. The company is saying she quit and they aren’t paying her. Kathie Lee Gifford said you don’t change the rules midstream and then get mad at them for not agreeing to it.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Anthony Davis Trademarks Unibrow
University of Kentucky basketball player Anthony Davis has trademarked his unibrow. Davis has two phrases that are said to go with his unibrow: “Fear the Brow” and “Raise the Brow,” and he has trademarked those phrases. I guess we all need to do something to stand out in this world! Davis said he didn’t want people to try and grow a unibrow and make money off of it, so he decided to trademark it because it’s very unique.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Kesha Gets Lip Tattoo
Pop singer Kesha sent out a picture of her new lip tattoo that is on the inside of her lip if you pull it down. The tattoo says “Suck It!” Kathie Lee said that’s about the classiest thing she’s ever seen and Hoda said nasty.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Anti-Adultery Ring
A company is selling an anti-adultery ring, which vows to end infidelity. The ring looks like a wedding band and when worn leaves the phrase “I’m Married” after the ring is removed. The phrase is on the inside of the band and when removed, it leaves an imprint of that phrase.
iHoda’s Playlist: Dierks Bentley “5-1-5-0”
Hoda Kotb announced her weekly song on iHoda’s Playlist. The song is called “5-1-5-0” by Dierks Bentley. Hoda said the song is so much fun and said tell me you aren’t going to be singing this by the time it’s done. “5-1-5-0” is supposed to be a police call for a crazy person.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Chores Make Men Happy
Researchers at Cambridge University said house chores make men happy. The secret for happiness for men is to do more chores. Kathie Lee said this is the case because then they are not listening to their wife nagging at them to do more chores. The study said women’s happiness is not affected by this, but Kathie Lee and Hoda think that is wrong.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Is It OK To Put Your Kids On Reality TV?
For OK! Magazine, Kathie Lee and Hoda answer the question: Is it ok to put your kids on reality TV? Kathie Lee said she doesn’t believe in parenting other people’s children, but they should be aware of the serious repercussions that sudden stardom brings. Hoda said yes, but be careful. There is a difference between a little TV time and overexposure.
