Kathie Lee & Hoda: The Other View
Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb and Sara haines are joined in the studio today to talk The Other View with Willie Geist, host of MSNBC’s Way Too Early With Willie Geist. Today they will be getting a guy’s perspective on Father’s Day through questions from viewers.
Father’s Day: No Gifts Means Gifts
When a Dad says he doesn’t want anything for Father’s Day, should I respect that and not get him anything?
Willie Geist said no, everybody wants a gift they just don’t want to ask for a gift. He said in a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode, Larry David is invited to a party and it said no gifts. He shows up at the party and everyone has gifts. He says it said no gifts and they say, Larry, no gifts means gifts.
Father’s Day: Celebrating Father’s Day
How far do you have to go when celebrating Father’s Day for other people in your family? Should you acknowledge your siblings who are fathers or just keep it to your husband and father?
Willie Geist said your immediate family is good. He said if it is your brother who is a new father, call your brother and say Happy Father’s Day, but it really is about the baby more than you. After the first year, no calls are necessary.
Father’s Day: Best Advice
What is the best advice your father gave you? What is the best advice you will give to your children?
Willie Geist said ometimes the best advice is the simplest. Willie’s dad always said to treat people well. It sounds so simple, but be good to people. As a child, go sit with the kid who is sitting alone at lunch, which is a hard thing to do for a kid. Geist said it is simple, but true.
Father’s Day: Go-To Gift Ideas
What are the go-to gifts that any guy will love?
Willie Geist said you can’t go wrong with a gift certificate to Home Depot. Geist said to not buy them anything, just give them the gift certificate and let them pick out what they want. Another idea is tickets to something…maybe a movie or a ballgame. Geist said just something we can do together, the father and son.
