Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb talked with Eugene Levy about his latest movie, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection, which opens in theaters on June 29 2012. Levy talked his other movies, including American Pie, some of his co-stars, including Steve Martin and Queen Latifah, and much more.

Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb talked with Eugene Levy about his new movie, Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection, working with Tyler Perry and co-starring with Steve Martin and Queen Latifah in previous movies.


Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection is about a Wall Street investor that is set-up as the fall guy and needs to hide out in a safe house with his family until the heat dies down. Eugene Levy plays the investor and his wife is played by Denise Richardson.

It is a white family of five trying to hide out in Madea’s neighborhood and Madea said we don’t have any white cars, how we going to hide them? Eugene Levy said it’s a very funny movie and Tyler Perry is a very funny man. The movie was shot in Atlanta at Tyler Perry Studios.

Eugene Levy said he didn’t question what was going on when he was asked to be in a Tyler Perry movie, but he was very excited. He was excited to work with Tyler Perry and said that Perry is iconic.


Levy said his role originally was kind of straight, which appealed to him. When they started shooting the movie, it really opened up and they didn’t stick to the script, which made it fun.

Eugene Levy: Movie Star

Kathie Lee Gifford said this is Eugene Levy’s 59th movie and she can’t remember anything that was not fabulous. Levy said that his favorites are any done with Chris Guest and he has a soft spot for those movies. Levy said that American Pie is a big part of his life and turned things around for him. He said he also loved doing Bringing Down The House with Steve Martin and Queen Latifah.
