Bill Hader bid farewell to Saturday Night Live this season, leaving fans questioning why he left. He told Kathie Lee and Hoda, “I’ll be walking down the street and a hot dog vendor will be like, ‘Hey, why did you leave? … What’s wrong with you?'”

Bill said that the reason he did leave the late night comedy sketch show was because he was constantly flying from New York City to Los Angeles with his wife and two children, realizing that they needed to permanently move to Los Angeles. Because of this move, he would no longer be able to work on SNL.

However, Bill has been adjusting to life after SNL. He said his wife’s movie The To-Do List comes out this summer and he stars in Larry David’s film Clear History. He also said that he and fellow SNL veteran Kristen Wiig star in a drama, Skeleton Twins, set to premiere this year.

Bill Hader told Kathie Lee and Hoda about his other post-SNL role as host of Turner Classic Movies’ Essentials Jr. With Essentials Jr., he is targeting a whole new audience than the audience of Saturday Night Live.

He said that although his audience for SNL was an older audience, kids still would come up to him and do impressions of his beloved character, Stefon, so the younger audience may recognize Essentials Jr.‘s host.  The show, airing Sunday mornings at 8 a.m. on TCM, introduces a younger audience to classic films.

Bill said that it is a show for the entire family, and something to bring generations together. This will be his third year hosting the show and the new season premieres Sunday, June 2.
