Guest host Mario Batali presided over a crossover special in which The View and The Chew co-hosts paired up to make delicious dishes. Whoopi Goldberg was paired with Mario Batali to make Caribbean Sloppy Joes and Meatballs In Red Sauce.

The View and The Chew hosts teamed up to make recipes including Caribbean Sloppy Joes and Mario’s Yaya’s Meatballs In Red Sauce, in a cookoff competition.

  • 1 lb Ground Meat
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 clove Garlic
  • 5 tbsp Tomato Paste
  • 2 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • Cayenne
  • Cinnamon
  • Paprika
  • 12 oz Ginger Beer
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt & Pepper

The View: Mario Batali Sloppy Joes Recipe Directions

  1. Slice an onion and garlic. Saute it in a skillet with a pound of ground meat in olive oil.
  2. Add brown sugar, cayenne, cinnamon, and paprika.
  3. Add salt and pepper, to taste.
  4. Mix in tomato paste, stirring all ingredients constantly.
  5. Add 12 oz ginger beer to the skillet.
  6. Bring to a boil. Then simmer for 25 minutes, until done.

The View: Mario Batali Island Style Relish

  1. Combine fresh pineapple, a shallot, jalapeno, cilantro and red wine vinegar in a bowl to create a relish.
  2. Toast your buns before serving sloppy joes topped with a little relish.

Mario Batali’s advice when cooking for others is to strike a balance and find something that all your guests can enjoy and feel great about. That is easier said than done, but I appreciate the sentiment.

The View: Michael Symon’s Meatballs Recipe

Michael Symon paired up with Joy Behar for the second recipe in the competition. The plan was to make delicious meatballs that he knew Joy would love.

The View: Michael Symon Meatballs In Red Sauce Ingredients

  • 2 lb Ground Beef
  • Day-Old Breadcrumbs
  • Milk
  • Caramelized Onions
  • 1 clove Garlic
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Ricotta Cheese
  • 1 Egg
  • Parsley
  • Basil
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt & Pepper

The View: Joy Behar Meatballs Recipe Directions

  1. Cover large day-old breadcrumbs with milk in a small bowl.
  2. Mix caramelized onions and garlic in with ground meat.
  3. Stir in parmesan cheese with ricotta cheese and an egg.
  4. Add chopped parsley and basil, as well as immersed breadcrumbs.
  5. Season meat with salt and pepper, to taste.
  6. Heat olive oil in a large pan on medium high.
  7. Use a scoop to create evenly sized meatballs.
  8. Brown meatballs in the olive oil.
  9. Make sure balls are fully cooked before serving.
  10. If desired, simmer in Mario’s Red Sauce recipe.

  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • San Marzano Tomatoes

Create Simmer for two to three hours. Include savory bones or ribs if desired.

    It would be nice if these recipes actually contained the amount of each ingredient. I couldn’t wait to see them on-line since we were told that we could find the recipes. These recipes make it a guessing game.

    Need the amounts for ingredients, and specialy the recipe for Michael Symon’s red sauce (his yaya?) that goes with the meat balls fron The View aired 3/28/13.

    Mario Batali was a delight hosting the competition. I was definitely impressed with the competitors maintaining calmness while explaining their recipes. This program was an excellent idea and thanks for making the recipes available for the viewers.
