The View: Matthew Morrison
Glee may have made Matthew Morrison a household name, but he had been on the stage for almost a decade before that show had ever aired. He made his Broadway debut with a Footloose musical in 2002, along with a revival of The Rocky Horror Show. It was when he stepped into the shoes of Link Larkin in John Waters’ Broadway production of Hairspray, however, that got him his big break. After that, Matthew Morrison took on many small television roles before he came to Glee as Will Schuester in 2009.
Though Matthew Morrison’s achievements on the stage and television have been many, he has also seen plenty of success in the musical arena, as well. In 2013, Matthew Morrison inked a solo deal with Mercury Records. In 2011, he released his self-titled debut, Matthew Morrison, and his second album, Where It All Began, came out June 4.
The View: Medgar Evers’ Widow
If you are an African American student attending the University of Mississippi today, you have Medgar Evers to thank for that. After returning from overseas service in World War II, Medgar Evers took on a role as a civil rights activist. He was successful, and was soon a field secretary for the NAACP.
One of his best-known efforts was his role in overturning segregation at the University of Mississippi. Sadly, he was assassinated by Byron De La Beckwith, a fertilizer salesman, on June 12, 1963. It wasn’t until new evidence emerged in 1994, however, that he was imprisoned for the murder. He died in prison at age 80.
