The View: Mika Brzezinski Obsessed Review

Mika Brzezinski is no stranger to eating disorders, and in her new book Obsessed: America’s Food Addiction And My Own, she opens up about hers for the first time.

Many people look at Mika Brzezinski and don’t at all see a person who, at one point, had a very unhealthy relationship with food. Mika decided to write the book a couple reasons, and one was because, when she was interviewing women for the book, several would not talk to her because their own daughters were suffering from eating disorders. It was then that Mika knew she had to actually write this book.

Mika Brzezinski is not entirely over her problems, but she made strides towards dealing with her bulimia, binge eating, and over-exercising. Her and another friend, who was suffering from obesity, made promises to each other to start getting help to address their eating disorders.

Part of Mika Brzezinski’s eating disorders came from her feelings of insufficiency in the shadow of her successful father, Zbigniew Brzezinski, former National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter, and her mother, Emilie Benes Brzezinski, a Swiss sculptor. Mika’s family is very intellectually charged, and there were times where she didn’t feel that she could measure up to them.

The View: Mika Brzezinski Therapy

As a form of research for Obsessed, Mika Brzezinski went through therapy to treat her conditions, and she has gotten a lot better as a result. Mika no longer weighs herself every day, refuses to walk around hungry while starving herself, and has gained 15 healthy pounds.

Mika also said that people need to start being honest with friends about their weight and sit down and have those uncomfortable conversations with them when they need to be had. It may help you and your friends discover something you never knew about yourself.
