The Talk: Naya Rivera
For four seasons, she has played the enigmatic cheerleader Santana on Fox’s Glee. Naya Rivera’s character has now relocated to New York, and the actress was on The Talk to share insights about her character’s fanbase.
The Talk: Naya Rivera American Idol
Rivera said that she considers herself blessed to be able to be financially independent, and she thinks it is empowering for women to be able to make their own choices.
Her dad was convinced that she could get her big break on American Idol. She once auditioned for the show in San Francisco, and she was cut in the first round.
However, her audition song, “Emotion” by the Bee Gees, landed her a job on Glee.
The Talk: Naya Rivera High School
Was she anything like her character in high school? Rivera said that she did have an attitude, but she was not very popular, so maybe no one noticed that quality.
Rivera admitted that she never even went to prom. Things have changed quite a bit over the years, and now the actress is probably more popular than all her old classmates.
The Talk: Glee Naya-Holics
Over the years of Glee, Santana has gone from dating football players to dating cheerleaders. Her character is a lesbian, and she said that fans have been amazingly supportive.
“I didn’t know that there were that many teenage lesbians in the world,” she said of the outpouring of fan response.
The Talk: Naya Rivera Tattoo
Her fans call themselves Naya-holics, and sometimes they can get a little crazy. One fan on the tour waited two days to get show tickets, and even had a tattoo of the actress’s name. I don’t think there is anyone I am a big enough fan of to get their name tattooed on myself.
You can see Naya Rivera as Santana in new episodes of Glee, airing Thursday nights on Fox.
