The Talk: Dermot Mulroney
He’s a popular star of comedies, romantic and otherwise, over the last couple decades, and now he is on TV. Enlightened’s Dermot Mulroney was also a guest on The Talk, alongside guest co-host Donny Osmond.
The Talk: Dermot Mulroney My Best Friend’s Wedding
You probably first noticed him in 1997’s My Best Friend’s Wedding, starring opposite Julia Roberts. That was his big break, but he told The Talk that he had no idea how it would change his career.
“I’ve had so many lasting, wonderful things come out of that job, it’s incredible,” he said. Mulroney just re-teamed with Roberts on the film adaptation of the play August: Osage County.
The Talk: Dermot Mulroney Vs Dylan McDermott
Sara Gilbert asked Mulroney about his Saturday Night Live appearance in a game show sketch about getting confused with fellow actor Dylan McDermott from American Horror Story.
“It’s a little minute form of collective dyslexia,” he said of the enduring mistake that leads to the two actors being confused. “They know they’re talking to me…. They just mix up the letters.”
Do we ever hear Dylan McDermott talking about this, or is Mulroney the only one of them who brings it up in interviews?
That leads me to another question: do you have a preference between Dylan McDermott and Dermot Mulroney? Let me know in the comments.
The Talk: Dermot Mulroney Enlightened Review
How did he land on the HBO comedy Enlightened? He was in the right place at the right time, and at a party he met Mike White, the show’s creator. They exchanged numbers, eventually went for lunch, and Mulroney landed a role in season 2 of the show.
Based on this interview, it sounds like some of the biggest breaks in his career have been a result of luck and happenstance. You never know what’s going to happen to you at a party in Hollywood, I suppose.
New episodes of Enlightened are airing Sunday nights on HBO.
