With so many people trying to slim down, there’s no doubt that many are turning to smoothies! Dr Ian Smith joined The Doctors, saying this is “the year of the purple smoothie.” He shared the recipe for his Purple Power Detox Smoothie which included flaxseed oil, kale, and blueberries. Just blend it up and you’ve got a healthy drink to take with you on the go with three grams of protein and six grams of fiber. So lets get to the smoothie recipes…

If you like oatmeal and strawberries in the morning, try a Strawberry Opener with nine grams of protein and six grams of fiber! To make the smoothie, just combine the following ingredients in a blender!

  • 1 C 2% reduced fat milk
  • 1/2 C old fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1-1/2 C frozen strawberries
  • 1 medium banana – peeled, sliced
  • 4 tbsp nonfat strawberry yogurt

Dr Ian then shared a recipe for his PB&J-inspired smoothie, a Peanut Butter and Strawberry Smoothie. Again, just combine the following ingredients in a blender and take it with you!

  • 1 C vitamin D-fortified whole milk
  • 1 tbsp unsalted orgnic peanut butter
  • 10 small ice cubes
  • 2 C frozen strawberries
  • 1 ripe medium banana – peeled, sliced
  • 1 tsp organic vanilla protein powder

The Doctors: Chocolate Blueberry Smoothie

Finally, Dr Ian prepared a Chocolate Blueberry Smoothie, inspired by chocolate-covered strawberries. Combine the following list of ingredients in a blender and you’re left with a filling, creamy smoothie that’s great for any time of the day.

  • 1 C unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 C tightly-packed curly kale – stems removed
  • 2 tbsp nonfat blueberry yogurt
  • 1 tbsp sweetened ground baking cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 C frozen blueberries
  • 1 ripe small banana – peeled, sliced
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened dark chocolate chips
  • 1/2 C cooked low-sodium white beans
  • 1 tsp raw organic honey
