The Doctors: Tamara’s Story

Tamara was pretty much your average American girl growing up. She loved running and snowboarding, in high school she joined the cross country team and fell in love with a boy named Patrick whom she moved out to San Diego with to attend college. On October 15, 2005, she got into a cab with Patrick and some friends and there was an accident. There had been a horse in the road and it the crash it landed on top of the cab, crushing the roof. The taxi driver and Patrick were instantly killed. Tamara had fractured her spine and her lungs collapsed. She was almost paraplegic. She worked hard to get to a point where she could take care of herself and drive herself and she graduated college, but she gave up on ever walking again.

After 6 years in a wheelchair someone told her about the Esko Bionic Exoskeleton and with a lot of hard work it enabled her to walk out on the set of The Doctors today.

The Doctors: Ekso Bionic Exoskeleton

The Ekso Bionic Exoskeleton was designed and developed for Ekso Bionics by at least ten people working diligently for years. It is powered by two motors in the hips and two motors at the knees, with two batteries and a computer in the backpack. It also has sensors on the feet, knees and hips that help to allow it to function. They hope to have the product in people’s homes within two years. If you have a condition where you are unable to walk, this has to be welcome news.
