The Doctors will share the inspiring story of Joey Funderburk on February 25.

The Drs: Joey Funderburk Story

Joey Funderburk’s story is well-known in his home state of South Carolina. Just this past fall, Joey made local headlines when he began selling donuts in an attempt to raise money for new prosthetic legs.

Joey Funderburk was born in Romania, a happy, healthy child, except for the fact that he had short stubs in the place of legs. Sadly, Joey had been abandoned by his birth parents, who realized the challenges it would take to raise him. Later, Joey was diagnosed with proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD).

Joey was raised in an orphanage, but when he met Chrystal Funderburk, he knew he had found his mother. Chrystal and her husband, Joe, fought to adopt Joey and give him the life and medical treatment he deserved. Now a happy family, the Funderburks still faced the challenge of providing their son with the expensive prosthetic legs he needed as he grew into an adult.

On The Doctors February 25, we’ll have the chance to meet Joey, Chrystal and Joe, and learn the full, inspiring story of the Funderburk family. Join The Doctors for more on Joey’s rare condition and how prosthetics have changed his life. Just be sure to have a box of tissues handy! The Doctors February 25 will be a moving new episode.
