Ali opened up about a previous false alarm, explaining that she had taken a pregnancy test that showed a false alarm, and a test at the doctor confirmed that she was pregnant because she had hcg in her blood, but that the pregnancy likely wouldn’t last because the levels weren’t high enough. Dr Jennifer Ashton explained that what happened is called a chemical pregnancy, which is where Ali had the pregnancy hormone in her blood, but it never actually progressed to something structural in the uterus. Dr Ashton said that no mother should compare their loss and think that they shouldn’t feel as bad about a chemical pregnancy as other women do about a miscarriage. A loss is still a loss.

Ali admitted that she was shocked by all the issues she has in the bathroom. She said a week will go by without her going to the bathroom and then when she finally does, it’s painful. She’s drinking a lot of water and eating chia seeds, and never really had an issue before, so she didn’t quite understand it. She jokes that Kevin will even ask her if she pooped that day. Dr Ashton explained that it’s a hormonal effect largely due to the progesterone that women have, slowing the entire digestive tract. As you get further along in pregnancy, you have the hormonal effect as well as the gravity effect, which can lead to hemorrhoids. Dr Ashton recommended a safe stool softener and a lot of fiber in her diet.

Ali is due July 13!
