After hearing about the new 24 hour Sprinkles Cupcake ATM, The Doctors shared a tip for how to make cupcakes healthier.

Today’s show featured 13 boxes that contained weight loss secrets and innovative tips. As the team opened each container, they revealed the surprising weight loss benefits of whatever was inside. But this box contained delicious cupcakes. Could they be part of a sugary new cupcake diet?

News reports explained the latest Beverly Hills trend, the innovative 24 hour cupcake vending machine. The Sprinkles ATM lets you put in a credit card and get an individually wrapped cupcake from the popular Sprinkles store. That may be popular with customers, but what are the health implications?

“When you first hear about that, that sounds like a dream,” Dr Lisa Masterson said. “But late night eating can really sabotage it, because your metabolism slows down. …You want to eat any meal at least two to three hours before you go to bed.”

Sadly, any new cupcake diet trend is not one that’s going to help you lose weight. Dr Travis Stork explained that avoiding late night snacks is crucial to maintaining the weight loss results of your diet and exercise plan.

How To Make Cupcakes Healthier

If you are addicted to cupcakes, Dr Lisa did have a tip to make them a little less sinful: remove the frosting. “In a cupcake, there’s about 475 calories. If you take the frosting off, you can almost cut that in half,” she said. “If you’ve got to cheat, take the frosting off. Try not to do it at night.”

I’ve always hated the decadent cupcake frosting anyway, but apparently Dr Travis loves it. For her part, Dr Lisa said she thinks the cupcake vending machine needs to add an option for milk.
