The Doctors: Joy Bauer's Food Cures & Audience Food Cure Quiz

The Doctors learned healthy tips from Joy Bauer’s Food Cures, including artichokes to cure constipation.

Joy Bauer: Smelling Olive Oil Makes You Full

Did you know that smelling olive oil can stop hunger in its tracks? Joy suggested that everyone take a whiff of their olive oil before adding it to their salad. The oil releases seratonin, which could help you stay fuller, longer. Who knew?

Food Constipation Cures

Later, Dr. Travis Stork and Joy spoke with Camilla, 22, who was in search of a great cure for constipation. Dr. Travis reported that the average American eats 11 grams of fiber a day. Women should be eating two times that, and men should be eating three times that. So which foods should Camilla be adding to her diet?

Dr. Travis and Joy gave Camilla 15 seconds to choose three food constipation cures. After a shopping trip to The Doctors’ food pharmacy, Camilla chose apples, artichokes and avocados.

Joy was very impressed with Camilla’s picks. Artichokes, especially, are loaded with fiber, though most people don’t know it. She recommends steaming or grilling artichokes and serving them with a lemon vinaigrette for dipping. Artichoke hearts also go great with pastas and salads. Raspberries and figs are also great choices for an extra fiber boost.

Food Headache Cures

Another audience member, Amanda, had a problem with chronic headaches. She played the same game that Camilla did, choosing three foods she believed would help cure her headache pain. Amanda chose ginger, orange and spinach.

According to Joy, two out of Amanda’s three picks are “superstars” when it comes to fighting headaches. Ginger is an anti-inflammatory, so brewing some ginger tea is a great, natural cure for headaches. Spinach is also a good choice because it contains magnesium and riboflavin, which both fight intense headaches.

Amanda can also try boiling up some quinoa. One cup has 30% of your daily value of magnesium.

The Doctors: Audience Food Cure Quiz
