The Doctors: What Causes Zits Or Pimples

Chole from Idaho emailed The Doctors with a complaint. She recently had to cancel a date “because I woke up with a huge zit on my face.” She was looking for healthy solutions to avoid this issue in the future.

To address all your skin care questions, The Doctors welcomed Dr Ava Shamban for a dermatology consult. She explained zits or pimples using a plastic model of the skin. Cortisol, the stress hormone, is increased when you are under pressure or stressed about an upcoming event, like a big date.

The Doctors shared DIY skin remedies such as the Brown Sugar Applesauce Acne Scrub Recipe.

When that excess Cortisol mixes with bacteria and skin cells, it creates that unwanted bump on your skin. But Dr Shamban said you should never squeeze a zit, because it can spread the infection or cause lasting facial scarring.

“You could go see your dermatologist and they could extract it for you,” Dr Travis said. But that’s not always feasible, so Dr Shamban shared some other ideas.

Zit Remedy: Toothpaste & Aspirin Powder

If you notice a pimple beginning to form as you get ready for bed, that’s the perfect time to start treating it before it gets out of control. One remedy you can use is Toothpaste, which contains an antibacterial drying agent. But you should mix it with Aspirin Powder for anti-inflammatory benefits.

Green Tea is an anti-inflammatory, and Olive Oil helps keep the face moisturized after your treatment.

“It’s exfoliating and moisturizing at the same time, which is really important when you have Acne,” she said.

Ingredients

  • Applesauce
  • Brown Sugar
  • Green Tea
  • Olive Oil

Directions

  1. Combine the ingredients to desired thickness.
  2. Apply this to your face and leave it on for five to 10 minutes.

The Doctors: What Causes Moles

Charlotte is tired of her moles, and she has not gotten results using any over the counter treatment products. She wanted to get advice from The Doctors about where these come from and whether she can have them permanently removed.

In the studio, Charlotte joined The Doctors to get answers to her questions. “Moles are made of…Neva Cells,” Dr Shamban explained, adding that they can pop up anytime during the first 40 years of life, almost anywhere on the body.

The Drs: Mole Danger Signs

There are a variety of colors, shapes, and textures that Moles can take, which is why it’s best to have suspicious moles investigated by a dermatologist, who can determine whether they are a cause for concern. Some moles could be a sign of Cancer.

Dr Shamban suggested doing a self assessment to keep an eye on your body’s moles. “You’re looking for mole that’s changing in size, shape, color, starts to bleed,” she said. “And that’s always a sign that you should go see your healthcare provider immediately.”

Moles Vs Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra Removal

In Charlotte’s case, her Moles are benign, but she hates seeing them. Dr Shamban said that there are easy removal procedures that can be done in a doctor’s office. Charlotte also suffers from “little brown growths that are called Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra,” or DPN, which could be treated with a different procedure.

Dr Shamban stretched Charlotte’s skin and used a surgical tool to literally slice the mole off the skin’s surface, revealing a pink surface underneath. Charlotte had a big smile when she saw her own after picture.

If you see a strange or questionable mole, “don’t wait,” Dr Shamban said. “Skin Cancer is something that, if you find it early, you get it cut out, no problem.”
