The Doctors shared that the latest beauty trend people are talking about is being touted as a “total skin detox” that they are calling the “5:2 diet,” where you do a skin care fast for two days out of the week. Do your skin care for five days and nothing for two days. Dr Drew Ordon said he was all for it, because it was like giving your skin a time out. Applying makeup every day or over-cleansing can degrade the condition of your skin.

Dr Ordon said it’s important to remove makeup every day and allow your skin to breathe. “Breathe” was the word of the day and you can use the word breathe to enter for a chance to win the Brilliance New York 24 carat gold indulgence face mask set valued at $3,999!

Would you give this 5:2 diet a shot?

The Drs: Mild Headache Triggers & Relief

The Doctors then shared that headaches are one of the most common forms of pain. Some common headache triggers include listening to loud music, menstrual cycles, exhaustion, hunger, and dehydration. To avoid getting a headache, keep track of what your triggers are and make a point to avoid them.

An over-the-counter medication like Excedrin Mild Headache can provide some relief.

The Drs: Christie Brinkley Injury

The Doctors then shared their News in 2:00, starting by sharing that former supermodel Christie Brinkley was airlifted to a nearby hospital after a freak accident on a private island. The 61-year-old was trying to “rescue a bird” when something went wrong. She posted several pictures on Instagram showing a swollen right eye and stiches and said “we interrupt this holiday to take a little unplanned excursion to Miami for CAT scans and stitches.”

The Drs: The Food Babe Controversy

In 2011, Vani Hari, The Food Babe, started a food blog that questioned ingredients in processed food. Vani was able to get Subway to remove a plastic-based substance from their breads and she takes credit for getting Kraft to remove yellow food dye from their mac and cheese. Now, a group of research scientists are calling Vani a fearmonger who preys upon the ignorance of a science illiterate public for her own profit. One Yale scientist refers to her as “the Jenny McCarthy of food activism.”

The Drs: Fredric Brandt Suicide

Dermatologist to the stars Fredric Brandt committed suicide, and a spokesperson confirmed he had been dealing with depression for quite a while and was supposedly devastated by a parody of him on the show Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The character in question was a doctor portrayed by Martin Short, who speaks in a high-pitched laugh and whose face looks like a “monstrous version of Brandt’s.”

Show creator Tina Fey’s husband Jeff Richmond said to the Daily Mail that Brandt’s death was “very sad.” Brandt had a loyal celebrity following, including Madonna, who said, “If I have nice skin, I owe a lot to him.”

What do you think? Could the show really be to blame for Fredric’s suicide?

The Drs: Safe Jogging Tips

Dr Travis Stork shared that when you’re running, if you can hear your feet pounding the pavement, you could be setting yourself up for injuries. Try shortening your stride and keeping your feet closer to the ground as you run, keeping your body relaxed. Keep your arms at about 90 degrees, because even a 5-10 minute jog a day can help you live longer.

If you can’t jog, a brisk walk where you use your arms will give you the same benefits.
