Summer beauty brings its own challenges, with heat and humidity wreaking havoc on hair. The Doctors shared some advice for maintaining a great look, no matter what the weather brings. Check out the green swimmer’s hair remedy, The Organic Pharmacy Carrot Butter Cleanser and other summer beauty advice.
The Doctors: Summer Hair Care
Karen Corcoran from Bardot Salon shared tips to beat frizzy hair in the summer.
Wash Hair Less
- Wash your hair less in the summertime.
- Avoid alcohol based hair products, and use a deep conditioner.
- Gently squeeze water out and dry your hair to about 85%.
- Find a shampoo free of sulfates.
- Make a conditioner part of your regular hair care routine.
- Use a nourishing hair mask weekly.
How To Fix Green Swimmer’s Hair
“If you rinse and condition your hair before and after getting in the pool, you’ll keep chemicals from soaking in,” Karen said.
But if Chlorine has already turned your locks green, you can dissolve eight Aspirin in warm water. Let the mixture sit in your hair for 15 minutes before rinsing. If that doesn’t work, it’s time to call on a professional.
The Drs: Petroleum Jelly & Vitamin E Dry Elbows Remedy
Hot weather and even cold AC can take its toll on your skin, drying it out. Tamra wanted to know what to do for her dry elbows, since she has yet to find relief from over the counter products.
This is a perfect question for Dr Andrew Ordon, who said this is a common condition in the summer. “Before you shower, you apply petroleum jelly on those elbows,” he said. Shower steam will allow the jelly to penetrate dry elbows. “Pat it dry gently and apply some Vitamin E oil” after the shower, he advised.
Alternately, rub a Banana Peel directly on the dry elbow area to improve a chalky appearance. Dr Jim Sears said you may want to rule out other conditions, such as Psoriasis and Eczema.
The Doctors: Organic Pharmacy Carrot Butter Cleanser Review
Summer weather can be hard on your facial skin too, but there are organic options out there to help you keep a clear complexion. Kerry Wall from The Organic Pharmacy shared an all natural facial treatment.
A Carrot Butter Cleanser can remove dead skin and dirt. Exfoliation is important in the summer due to excess heat and sunscreen residue.
Organic Pharmacy: Vitamin C Papaya Enzyme Peel Review
Kerry also used a Vitamin C and Papaya Enzyme Peel, whose enzymes tackle damage to the skin’s surface. Glucosamine and Hyaluronic Acid create a fuller, plump appearance.
The natural ingredients shouldn’t burn of chafe. The facial concludes with an Antioxidant Serum, using Rose Hip Oil to reverse wrinkles and sun damage, as well as scarring.
The Drs: Organic Pharmacy Skin Survival Kit Review
The Doctors studio audience received The Organic Pharmacy Skin Survival Kit, featuring products used in this facial treatment, a $300 value.
