The Doctors: Causes Of Black Tongue
On TMI Tuesday, Shavonne needed help with a strange medical condition: her black tongue. She said that her dark and discolored tongue had been getting progressively worse since her teenage years. Could this be a serious medical condition?
Shavonne met with oral and maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Steven Kupferman in order to find out. After an examination, Dr. Kupferman said that the issue could be something serious like melanoma, or something benign like a simple birthmark. A biopsy was performed to find out for sure.
The causes of black tongue can be varied, from smoking to poor hygiene. Dr. Kupferman found that in Shavonne’s case, it was probably ethnic pigmentation, or hormonal reasons. Luckily, her biopsy showed that the issue was benign. He planned to treat Shavonne’s black tongue with laser resurfacing.
Should You Use Two Towels?
After a shower or bath, we all dry off with a towel, but have you ever considered using two towels? One Doctors viewer wondered if she should use one towel for the top half of her body and face and one towel for the bottom half of her body. Is it sanitary to use one towel for both regions of the body?
According to all The Doctors, it’s perfectly okay to use one towel. After all, you are clean when you come out of the shower, so you’re supposed to be germ-free. In case you are a bit squeamish, just dry yourself from the top down.
Or, if you’re like Dr. Jim Sears, you can label your towel with “Face” on one side and “Butt” on the other! Check out Dr. Sears’ clever towel solution in the video below.
