The Doctors: Carpal Tunnel vs. Stroke
A Doctors viewer recently became confused when she saw Jessica Alba on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The actress joked about mistaking the symptoms of carpal tunnel for the symptoms of a stroke. In order to clarify, neurosurgeon and spine specialist Dr. Justin Paquette joined The Doctors.
Symptoms Of Stroke
While carpal tunnel is a nerve problem that can be painful, it’s not exactly as dangerous as a stroke. A stroke occurs from bleeding in the brain or a blood clot. When oxygen and nutrients are cut off from the brain, cells begin to die, which can lead to permanent damage. Here are some of the common symptoms of a stroke:
- Rapid onset of numbness and/or weakness, usually on one side of the body
- Difficulty with speech or understanding speech
- Visual changes
Symptoms Of Carpal Tunnel
Carpal tunnel actually has nothing to do with the brain, but is caused by a compressive lesion in the wrist. Here are some of the most common symptoms of carpal tunnel:
- Numbness/tingling usually in thumb and first two fingers
- Eventual wasting of muscles in thumb area
The Drs: Align Probiotic Review
To help highlight the importance of digestive health, Dr. Andrew Ordon was joined by registered dietician Ashley Koff. They explained how food travels from our mouths, through the esophagus and into the stomach. Enzymes in the stomach help to break the food down, and then nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream from the small intestine. Finally, food moves into the large intestine (the colon).
Probiotics are healthy bacteria that help aid digestion. However, not all probiotics are alike. Ashley Koff suggests Align, which contains bifantis, along with healthy diet and exercise to maintain digestive health.
