The Doctors: Boost Health With Soup

Registered dietitian and nutritionist, Rachel Beller, author of “Power Souping,” joined the show to explain why she believes soups are the key to good health. She stated that souping is the new juicing except better. A recent study published in the Journal of Nutrition, found that having a soup of solids and liquids blended together actually keeps you fuller longer than a plated meal and a glass of water. You can even enjoy soup for breakfast! Just blend berries, greens, chia seeds, and some protein like watermelon seeds. Just 1/4 cup of watermelon seeds has 10 grams of protein.

For lunch you can try a raw soup like a red pepper soup made in the blender. Just throw in tomatoes, red bell peppers, a little garlic, lime, and vinegar. To make it a complete meal you need protein, and that’s where you can add black beans, wild salmon, or even shrimp. For dinner you can have yet another soup! Try blending a soup with celery leaves which are loaded with five times more calcium than the stalk.

The Doctors: Save Money With Your Smartphone

The “Crazy Coupon Lady” Joanie Demer was back to share ways you can actually save money using your smartphone. First was an app called Paribus, which gives you price adjustments directly. The app tracks your purchases through your shipping confirmations in your inbox and once they can tell what you’ve been buying, they start to watch the prices on those items and if the price drops within a specified time period, the app will contact that retailer for you and request for that refund to be given. The app does take a 25% cut, but as Joanie said, you literally have to do nothing but download the app to get the money.

Joanie loves shopping at Whole Foods, which is why she began using their newly remodeled app to find coupons that are exclusive to users of the app. The app is easy to use as well, which can mean instant savings!
