The Chew’s Secret Life of Bacon show continued with Clinton Kelly’s Candied Bacon Recipe. To help him create this sweet treat, Celebrity Wife Swap contestants Alan Thicke and his wife Tanya were in the kitchen with Clinton.

Dara said that she appreciates foods from all cultures. At the Thicke household, neither spouse sounds like a great cook. Disgustingly, Alan Thicke apparently thaws frozen meats in the jacuzzi.

On The Chew, Clinton Kelly taught Alan Thicke and his wife how to make a Candied Bacon Recipe before quizzing them about Celebrity Wife Swap. (ABC/Lou Rocco)

Thus, Dara implored the co-hosts to remind her husband that you shouldn’t thaw food in hot water, and probably not in a hot tub either.

The Chew: Clinton Kelly Candied Bacon Ingredients With Frisee Salad

  • 1 lb Thick Cut Bacon
  • 1/4 cup Maple Syrup
  • 1/2 cup Dark Brown Sugar
  • 2 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1/8 tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 tbsp Dijon Mustard
  • 2 heads Frisee
  • 1 Shallot
  • 4 tbsp Champagne Vinegar
  • 3 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 6 Poached Eggs
  • Salt & Pepper

Clinton Kelly: The Chew Candied Bacon Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 F.
  2. Prepare a baking sheet.
  3. Combine cayenne with apple cider vinegar, dijon mustard, brown sugar, maple syrup and salt and pepper.
  4. Transfer half the mixture into a baking dish.
  5. Spread bacon in the baking dish, coating all sides with the mixture.
  6. Move bacon to a cooling rack. Spread a single layer on the rack.
  7. Let cook about 15 minutes.
  8. Begin basting every few minutes until crispy, up to 30 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
  10. Remove from rack and break up to desired size.
  11. To make the salad, cut off frisee roots and separate leaves.
  12. Mix leaves with salt, pepper, vinegar, oil, and shallots.
  13. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  14. Serve with poached eggs and candied bacon. Or serve it over vanilla ice cream.

The Chew crew also quizzed Tanya about her relationship with Alan. How well do they know each other? It is hard to say, because the questions were not the best. Alan did not get a single question about Tanya correct.
