I guarantee you won’t be able to look at donuts the same again. His Cider Donut Bread Pudding is everything you want in a sweet, gooey dessert! If you ask me, the hardest part of this recipe is not eating the donuts while you let them dry out a bit for baking. Thankfully, the rest of the recipe comes together easily!

The Chew: Cider Donut Bread Pudding Recipe

  • 12 day-old cinnamon sugar cider donuts – cut into 8 pieces
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 C whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter – softened
  • 1 1/2 C apples – peeled, small dice
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 C half and half
  • 1 C sugar
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg – freshly grated
  • Kosher salt – to taste

The Chew: Cider Donut Bread Pudding Recipe Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter
  3. Add the donuts and the apples to the greased baking dish in one layer
  4. In a large bowl, add the egg yolks, egg, half and half, whole milk, vanilla extract, sugar, nutmeg, salt, and cinnamon
  5. Whisk to combine until smooth then pour the egg mixture over the donut mixture
  6. Carefully press down so all the donut mixture is soaked in the liquid
  7. Let sit for 10 minutes before baking
  8. Cover with foil and put in the oven for 30 minutes
  9. Uncover and keep baking for 35-40 minutes until the custard is set
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving
