Happy Mardis Gras! The Chew hosted New Orleans-style bash in honor of Fat Tuesday. All of the hosts love the city of New Orleans– except for Daphne Oz, who’s never been. Recently, her parents went to New Orleans for the Super Bowl, but she didn’t score an invite.

Mario Batali called New Orleans “pound for pound the greatest town in America.” There’s incredible music, amazing regional cuisine, and it’s one of the few cities in America that has its own unique, distinct culture. Michael Symon agreed that there’s a magic to New Orleans unlike anywhere else in the world.

The Chew kicked off its Mardi Gras celebration by sampling ice cream from The New Orleans Ice Cream Co.

The Chew crew checked out some pictures of famous celebrities enjoying fun times in New Orleans, such as Sofia Vergara and Channing Tatum.

The Chew: Higher or Lower: Mardi Gras Edition

Then, the hosts played a game of “Higher or Lower.” Clinton Kelly read some Mardi Gras-themed statistics, and audience members guessed if the numbers should be higher or lower.

  • More than 5 million pounds of plastic beads will be thrown during Mardi Gras.
  • Lower, but it’s still a lot! 4.8 million plastic beads.
  • On average, 3,000 tons of trash will be collected the day after Mardi Gras.
  • Higher, it’s 4,000 tons of trash.

The Chew: New Orleans Ice Cream Co.

When the hosts got tired of using their brains, they decided to dig into some ice cream. The local New Orleans Ice Cream Co. creates original, regional flavors such as Creole cream cheese, cafe au lait and beignets, and Cajun rum and raisin. Yum! In fact, the flavors were so good, that Carla Hall decided to spoon-feed audience members.
