Kelly & Michael: Oklahoma Tornado Update
Kelly & Michael jumped right into the latest news of the day in host chat, including an update on the Oklahoma tornado. As it turns out, the initial death toll was overestimated; it was originally reported that there were 51 deaths, but the real number is 24. Obviously, 24 lives lost is still tragic, but at least more people have survived than initially thought. As Kelly said, the tornado has been upgraded from an EF4 to an EF5.
Now that images of the tornado’s devastation have flooded in through various media outlets, it’s hard to imagine that anyone could survive. Michael revealed that the tornado’s impact was 600x more powerful than the Hiroshima atomic bomb.
Kelly & Michael: Tornado Safety in Schools
Kelly said that Mark lived in Lebanon, Illinois, when he first arrived in the United States as a child. In school, he underwent many tornado drills, where children were told to gather in the gym. Eventually, a tornado did hit, but because it was on a Sunday, no one was in school. Of the entire school, though, the only room that was completely flattened was the gym. That was quite some time ago, but still, Kelly and Michael agreed that there should be shelters in each and every school that faces the threat of tornadoes.
Kelly Ripa: Mother-in-Law Relationships
Later, the hosts transitioned from mother nature to mothers-in-law. As every wife knows, the relationship with your mother-in-law can be tricky, and it’s often the husband who gets caught in the middle. Lucky for Kelly, she loves Mark’s mother, and always has. “I think I hit the mother-in-law jackpot,” Kelly said.
Kelly asked Michael if Nicole and his mother were fighting, whose side would he take? Obviously, Michael avoided answering the question! He said that both women were watching from home.
One trick that Kelly has developed for helping maintain a good relationship with her in-laws is that she’s learned to understand Italian. She doesn’t speak Italian, but at least she knows when everyone is talking about her!
