Joshua Ledet: American Idol Second Runner Up
Joshua Ledet is a 20-year-old aspiring singer from Westlake, Louisiana. He was first inspired to sing when he saw Fantasia Barrino win the third season of American Idol, and decided from there that he would pursue it as a career.
After impressing the judges week after week with his classic and soulful sound, he was eliminated from American Idol just before the finale, placing third. Check out Kelly’s previous interviews with runner-up Jessica Sanchez and winner Phillip Phillips.
Joshua Ledet: American Idol Finale
Before welcoming him out to join them, Martin and Kelly watched the Joshua Ledet American Idol elimination clip, and Philip Phillips going through to the finale. They noted how much tension there is in a moment like that, and Kelly remarked how touching it was when he brought out his mom to perform his last song.
Joshua then came out and said that right in that moment before his elimination, he had a feeling that he would be the one to go.
He knew that Phillip had many, many fans, so his chances were pretty slim. But he said that he did feel very proud to have made it to third place. Kelly pointed out that he had auditioned last year and did not even make it through to Hollywood.
Joshua called being named the second runner-up a “big accomplishment.” Most people think that he is disappointed, but he is actually very excited to have made it so far. He was also very happy for both Jessica and Phillip, and said that at that point, “everyone was a winner.”
American Idol: Joshua Ledet Westlake, Louisiana
Kelly asked about the reaction from his community back home in Louisiana. They showed a clip from American Idol of Joshua in his hometown, where huge crowds gathered with signs and were cheering him on.
Joshua said that he hasn’t been home since he left the show, so he doesn’t know what everyone thinks about him being eliminated. But he is grateful to have had so much support from home. He didn’t actually realize how many people he had behind him, and heard about it mostly from his mom.
Joshua Ledet “It’s a Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World” Performance
After sitting down for his interview with Kelly and Martin, Joshua sang a very mature and soulful rendition of “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World,” a classic song first made famous by James Brown in 1963.
The song’s title comes from the comedy film It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, also from 1963. Numerous artists have covered the song over the years, including Christina Aguilera, Tom Jones, and Etta James. Joshua also sang it during his time on American Idol. When he sings, Joshua sounds a lot older than his 20 years! His voice and style are very sophisticated.
After he finished, Kelly congratulated him and told him that he has a very bright future. With a voice like that, he surely does. The American Idol tour begins July 6, and you can find out information on the Live with Kelly website.
