Paul Jolley: Eliminated From American Idol
Tennessee native Paul Jolley was recently eliminated from American Idol, but their loss was our gain; Paul took the stage to perform a song for the Live! with Kelly & Michael audience. Michael Strahan and guest co-host Kristin Chenoweth enjoyed Paul’s rendition of Keith Urban’s “Tonight I Wanna Cry.”

Paul Jolley’s own singing idol is superstar country artist Keith Urban, who’s been his hero since he was a little kid. Paul sang a beautiful cover of Keith’s hit “Tonight I Wanna Cry,” accompanied by a piano. Lucky for Paul, Keith was a new judge on this season of American Idol, along with Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj.
Paul said that the best advice that Keith gave him on the show was to never give up. Perseverance is very important when pursuing a singing career, because singers will always face a lot of rejection before achieving success.
Paul Jolley: First Time In New York City
Kristin remembered meeting Paul at an awards show recently. Paul remembered Kristin, but he wasn’t sure if she’d remember him. “How could I forget that voice?” she said. Paul is from Tennessee, which is one of Kristin’s favorite places. When she asked him what his favorite place to eat in Nashville was, he replied, “my mom’s home cooking.”
Paul auditioned for American Idol a few seasons ago, but never made it past the first round. Now, as an American Idol cast-off, he has the chance to visit places he’s never been before. His trip to Live! marked his first trip to New York. He had already taken a ride on the subway. “I’ve never seen a place so clean all my life,” he joked.
You can catch American Idol on FOX Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 8 p.m.
