One Republic is a popular rock band from Colorado Springs, Colorado that formed in 2002. Lead singer Ryan Tedder is a prolific, Grammy Award-winning songwriter who has produced hits for artists like Adele, Beyonce, Leona Lewis and Carrie Underwood. His own band came to prominence with the hit single “Apologize” in 2007, taken from One Republic’s debut album Dreaming Out Loud. One Republic has come to be known for a unique mix of sounds and styles and has cited influence from the genres of rock, indie, pop, hip-hop and beyond.
One Republic’s latest album, Native, isn’t even out yet, but Kelly and Michael were lucky enough to hear a sneak peek. Native, the band’s third release, will be released on March 26, 2013.
One Republic: “If I Lose Myself” Performance
One Republic performed their latest hit, “If I Lose Myself,” for the Live! With Kelly & Michael audience. It’s a mellow rock song featuring a hip-hop beat and powerful instruments, which perfectly aligns with the band’s genre-mixing style. They sounded great, and Kelly and Michael were blown away by their performance.
Afterwards, Kelly and Michael asked Ryan Tedder what the significance behind the name “Native” was. Ryan explained that each time One Republic releases an album, they end up touring approximately 40-50 countries. They wanted to create a collection of songs that would feel native and indigenous to everyone.
Later, after Kelly & Michael looked through some Inbox emails, One Republic returned for another performance to close the show. Brandy from San Diego wrote in to thank Kelly & Michael for the great trip she won on Live. Then, One Republic sang “Feel Again” to play the hosts out.
