Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Toni Braxton have a combined 16 Grammy Awards, and now they are working together on an R&B album of duets, called Love, Marriage & Divorce. They performed “Hurt You” on Kelly & Michael’s stage.

Babyface and Toni Braxton performed “Hurt You” while facing one another. The stripped down performance featured backup from a piano and guitar, but most of the power was coming from the vocal duo.

The lyrics of the song are about a couple confessing to one another that they have let each other down, and apologizing for their past sins. Based on the album title, it seems like the songs they perform together are primarily about relationships, and this was a representative example.

I don’t think we see enough R&B on television, so it’s nice that these two superstars are in the mix with something new and exciting for fans. Are you a fan of duets? I like it when you get an unexpected or surprising pairing.

Kelly & Michael: Toni Braxton Retirement?

Kelly Ripa wondered whether people mistake these two for a couple. Toni said that she used to have a crush on Babyface, but they have always been good friends. She said he treats her like a sister.

“We’re like the black Donny and Marie,” Babyface joked. Toni admitted that she had been thinking about retiring, but Babyface and some others encouraged her to use her music as therapy as she was going through a divorce.

Though she said the process was hard, she was glad that she put it out there. Both of these performers do have spectacular voices, so it’s a good thing for music lovers that Toni is still in the business.

Live’s Search for Unstoppable Moms Nominations

The entry deadline for Live’s Search for Unstoppable Moms is upon us, so Kelly and Michael shared some submissions, including a mother of three who got her bachelor’s and Master’s degrees while working full time. There was also a mother of six kids under 10, and a woman from Hawaii who teaches kindergarten.
