Teen actor Zachary Gordon is the star of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid film series, which is based on the popular books of the same name by Jeff Kinney. On “Live With Kelly” July 30, Zachary joined Kelly and Chris to talk about his latest film, but there was something noticeably different about him: he had a cast on his leg. Kelly and Chris both wanted to know: what happened?

Zachary explained that there were several options for how he injured his leg, including saving the planet from an asteroid while sky-diving, and performing skateboarding tricks with Tony Hawk. The real story, however, involved Zachary running into the kitchen with wet shoes. The truth is always less glamorous than fiction!

Live With Kelly: Zachary Gordon High School

Just like his character, Zachary will soon be heading to high school. He attends public school, and he likes it because it makes him feel normal. He has had the same group of friends for several years, who do not treat him like he’s a movie star.

However, Kelly and Chris scared Zachary a bit by declaring high school “the worst.” Kelly said that it is a terrible time for most normal people, but they were confident that it will be better for Zachary than it was for them!

Zachary’s next film is the third in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, and it is called Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. Chris said that his kids have read all of the books, and that his whole family loves the film series.

Kelly remarked that it is amazing how Zachary has grown up in front of our eyes through the films. She noticed that Zachary had some facial hair, and he admitted that puberty has hit him “like a truck”– he is 14, after all! In order to shoot Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, Zachary had to get waxed, similar to Steve Carrell in The 40-Year-Old Virgin. He said that if Steve Carrell could do it, so could he!

Kelly, Chris and Zachary then watched a clip from Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. The film opens on August 3 2012, so grab a kid and head to the movie theater!
