Zach Galifianakis: Weight Loss Secret
Actor and comedian Zach Galifiankis joined Kelly and Joel on “Live With Kelly” July 25 for an interview. Kelly and Zach first met earlier this year at the Academy Awards, where Kelly “plied him with liquor.” Zach called those “the good old days,” because he has since quit drinking. However, he agreed to go drinking with Joel about three seconds later, so who knows how serious he is!
Kelly remarked that Zach looked like he was getting into great shape, so she wondered if he had been working out. Zach said that he has lost a bit of weight, but it’s mostly from quitting drinking. He had a big weight loss secret to share: if you don’t drink twenty beers a night, you lose weight. Who knew?!
Zach Galifianakis: Worst Last Name Offender
Zach’s last name, Galifianakis, is Greek, and is one that you don’t come across every day. Joel asked Zach for examples of some of the worst pronunciations he’s ever heard. Zach said that he and his family used to page each other at the airport for fun, just to see how the announcer would say their name. However, the worst was probably a sign waiting for him at the airport that read “Gaspafinasky.”
Zach Galifianakis: Hamburger Harry’s Stand-Up
One of the places that Zach first got his start was at a burger joint in Times Square called Hamburger Harry’s. He used to perform his stand-up routines there along with lots of other comedians. Joel wondered, “how did they pay you, in meat?” Zach said it was all ketchup packs.
Zach Galifianakis: “The Hangover 3”
Zach has starred as awkward brother-in-law Alan in the hit comedy The Hangover and its sequel, The Hangover 2. So, will there be a Hangover 3? Zach confirmed that they will begin shooting the next installment in the fall. The filming will take place in Mexico and Las Vegas.
Zach Galifianakis: Working with Will Ferrell
Zach’s co-star in his upcoming political comedy The Campaign is Will Ferrell. Zach, Kelly and Joel all took turns disparaging Will’s good name. Zach called him “disgusting,” and Kelly said that they had to re-paint the dressing room after he left yesterday. Of course, they were all just kidding; Zach called Will “one of the nicest people ever.”
Zach Galifianakis: Marty Huggins & Effeminate Racist
Zach’s character in The Campaign is Marty Huggins, the political opponent of Will Ferrell’s character Cam Brady. Zach said that Marty is based on a character he developed in high school called “The Effeminate Racist,” which he used to make fun of racist and rednecks. Will had heard about the character, and they decided to put him in the movie as Marty.
Kelly, Joel, and Zach watched a clip of Marty in action, at the dinner table with his family. Be sure to catch Zach and Will Ferrell in The Campaign when it opens in theaters on August 10 2012.
