Ray Romano: Native New Yorker
Actor and comedian Ray Romano has enjoyed a long and successful Hollywood career, but first and foremost, he’s a New Yorker. When Ray joined Kelly and Seth on “Live With Kelly” July 13, Kelly asked him if he gets to see all of his Queens family every time he’s back in the city. Ray said that he does, because everyone still lives in the same neighborhood, Forest Hills. Ray’s mom even lives in the same house that he grew up in.
Whenever Ray gets an offer to do stand-up in the New York area, he said it becomes like a family wedding. All of his relatives come to see the show– which of course, costs him money, because he has to buy all their seats!
Ray Romano: Odd Jobs
Before becoming an actor, Ray had many odd jobs around New York. He met his wife when they both worked at a bank. Before that, he delivered futon mattresses all around the city in a truck. He even got to deliver into the apartments of some major celebrities, such as Robert De Niro and Cher.
Robert De Niro was not in his apartment at the time, but Ray said that his aura was there, and that was scary enough. However, Ray got to meet Cher personally. Many years later, when he met her again, she came up to him and said that “the futon was a piece of crap.”
Ray Romano: “Everybody Loves Raymond”
For nine seasons, Ray starred as Ray Barone on the hit sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond.” Kelly wondered if he and the rest of the hilarious cast keep in touch. Ray said that he sees a lot of them often, including his on-screen brother, Brad Garrett. He just attended a charity event with Doris Roberts, who played his over-bearing mother, and appeared at the presentation ceremony for on-screen wife Patricia Heaton’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Ray has spoken at both Patricia’s and Doris’s ceremonies, but since he doesn’t have his own star, he wanted to remind everyone that he was in the show, too!
Ray Romano: “Ice Age 4: Continental Drift”
Ray is reprising his role as Manny the Mammoth in the upcoming animated sequel Ice Age 4: Continental Drift. The film also features the voice talents of Denis Leary, Jennifer Lopez, Wanda Sykes and John Leguizamo. Kelly said that her son, Joaquin, can’t wait to see the movie when it comes out.
In the film, Ray explained that Manny’s teenage daughter, Peaches, is growing up and starting to hang around the wrong crowd. He said that in real life, he is going through something similar with his own kids. His daughter, who just graduated college, is a straight-A student, but his three sons are not as well-behaved!
Kelly, Seth and Ray then watched a clip from the film in which Manny realizes that Peaches has gone missing. Ice Age 4: Continental Drift opens in theaters Friday, July 13 2012.
