Kelly and Joel watched a clip from the show of the struggle to grab an enormous catfish. Two of the show’s stars, Trent Jackson and Skipper Bivins, then joined the hosts to discuss their sport of choice.

“Hillbilly Handfishin”: Trent Jackson & Skipper Bivins

Trent Jackson said that he caught his very first catfish at the age of four. Kelly asked, why don’t you just use a fishing pole? Skipper called that type of fishing “senior citizen fishing.” They both much prefer getting down and dirty, hillbilly style!

To demonstrate how noodling works, Kelly and Joel were seated in front of a tank of catfish. Since Trent and Skipper are catfish experts, they explained that these were red-tailed and shovel-nosed catfish from Peru, which are very aggressive.

After telling Kelly that the catfish could easily bite off her toes, the guys asked her to stick her feet in the tank! Trent said that “city slickers make great bait.” The noodlers will wiggle their toes in the water to attract the fish, then wrestle them out of the water.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, Trent and Skipper put blindfolds on Joel and Kelly. They said that it’s only fair, since in Oklahoma, they can’t see through the muddy water. No catfish attacked Joel or Kelly, though– just Trent’s hands to scare them a little!

Be sure to learn more about the dangerous sport of “noodling” on “Hillbilly Handfishin.” The new season begins Sunday, July 29 2012, at 8 PM on Animal Planet.
