Live! Unstoppable Mom Search: Trelawney McCoy
Last week, Kelly & Michael announced the four amazing finalists of of Live’s Unstoppable Mom Search: Katie Broadus from Benton, Arkansas, Trelawney McCoy from Rochester, New York, Andrea Cortes from Waterbury, Connecticut and Mary Lou King from Cochranville, Pennsylvania. The next incredible mom we were lucky enough to meet in person was Trelawney McCoy. Trelawney is a single mom of eight children, seven of which she adopted from foster care. Here’s more on Trelawney’s touching, courageous story.
Trelawney explained that she first became a foster parent 13 years ago with Rasheen, Tyrese and Kwaymayne, three young brothers whose mother had died. They had been in the system for five years and, even though she already had her own daughter, Brittany, she realized that she couldn’t let them go. She adopted the boys, which soon led to more calls and more adoptions. Now, Trelawney is an insanely busy mom of eight, but as she said, they’re “just one big happy family.”
Brittany described her mother as “selfless,” and someone who often goes without in order to provide for her children. “I would never turn a child away that needs a home,” Trelawney explained. Her favorite part of being an adoptive parent is seeing the growth and change in a child’s life, which she called “rewarding.”
But how does one person parent for eight children? It’s obviously not easy, but Trelawney gets the job done. She helps with homework, cooks, cleans and even coaches her children’s football league. She can’t explain how it all comes together, but in the end, it always does.
Kelly & Michael: Trelawney McCoy Unstoppable Mom
Trelawney McCoy was the first Unstoppable Mom to receive a full standing ovation from the audience, who were all so moved and impressed by her story. “I just don’t know how you do it… when do you sleep?” Kelly asked. Trelawney admitted that sleep isn’t something she experiences a lot.
In order to help her out with that R&R, Kelly and Michael are sending Trelawney on a luxurious spa trip to the Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort and Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona. Plus, Trelawney’s eight amazing children helped her accept her Unstoppable Mom trophy.
