Live! Unstoppable Mom Search: Katie Broadus
All week long, Kelly & Michael are introducing viewers to the four finalists of Live’s Unstoppable Mom Search: Katie Broadus from Benton, Arkansas, Trelawney McCoy from Rochester, New York, Andrea Cortes from Waterbury, Connecticut and Mary Lou King from Cochranville, Pennsylvania. The next incredible mom was Katie Broadus, an Arkansas mother of two. Katie was nominated by her husband, Joshua, who believes that his wife isn’t just an unstoppable mom, but an “unstoppable human being.”
Katie’s daily routine involves getting up at 4:30 a.m., caring for her two-month-old and preparing her older daughter, Avery, for school. In May 2012, doctors found a tumor in Joshua’s brain. Katie, who was pregnant at the time, was forced to endure a long surgery to find out whether her husband would make it. Thankfully, Joshua is now doing fine, but his family struggled during his recovery period. While Joshua was in the hospital, Katie took over all of the cooking, cleaning and other household tasks. Despite being exhausted from her pregnancy, Katie soldiered on.
Then, on Christmas Day 2012, Katie unexpectedly went into labor during a major snowstorm. Things began to spiral out of control when the power went out and, after calling 911 several times, the ambulance became stuck in the blizzard. The one person who kept her cool throughout the ordeal was Katie. She never screamed, because she didn’t want to wake her sleeping daughter upstairs.
Katie gave birth to her second daughter on December 26, 2012 on the family’s living room sofa. Thankfully, there were no complications, and Katie became a local hero and a truly unstoppable mom.
Kelly & Michael: Katie Broadus Unstoppable Mom
Katie made her Live! entrance and reported that her two-month-old daughter is now doing great. “Do you still have the same sofa?” Kelly asked, and Katie said that they’re keeping it as a family heirloom. Katie received her Unstoppable Mom trophy, as well as a $5,000 Talbots gift certificate, because every Unstoppable Mom needs a great wardrobe!
