Live! Unstoppable Mom Search: Andrea Cortes
We’ve met almost all of our Unstoppable Mom Search finalists, except one! After learning the stories of Katie Broadus from Benton, Arkansas, Trelawney McCoy from Rochester, New York and Mary Lou King from Cochranville, Pennsylvania, last but not least was Andrea Cortes from Waterbury, Connecticut.
Andrea and her husband, Edwin, are high school sweethearts who have been together for 16 years. The couple have two children, Avery and Edwin, Jr. Andrea is just like any other busy mom who does it all for her family, however, Andrea has been in a wheelchair for 10 years.
Edwin recalled receiving the devastating news that his wife had been in a car accident. At the time, Andrea had just given birth to their son. Andrea said that she had a “why me?” grieving period, as many people do when faced with tragedy. However, she knew that she had to “pull it together” and return to her family.
Edwin said that Andrea was determined to get home to her kids and worked hard to learn how to live her entire life over again. Now, Andrea works a full time job as a 911 dispatcher, takes care of her family, cooks, cleans and also partakes in fun activities like horseback riding, swimming and camping.
“Being a mom in a wheelchair has never stopped me, it’s only inspired me,” Andrea said.
Kelly & Michael: Unstoppable Mom Andrea Cortes
When she joined Kelly & Michael, Kelly had a very obvious question to ask of Andrea. “Do you ever stop at all?” Andrea shook her head. “No time!” she explained. Kelly & Michael presented Andrea with her Unstoppable Mom trophy and also decided to make her upcoming family vacation to Disney World a bit more special. Andrea received a $1,000 Disney gift card, a spa gift certificate and theme park admission.
